Are you ready to start speaking Korean confidently?

Are you fed up with watching countless Korean language Youtube videos, Instagram posts and trying to learn Korean on your own?

Walking away from language classes and language exchanges feeling inadequate, frustrated, and disappointed

You are dying to learn Korean but not sure where exactly to start?

You are wasting time studying (the wrong way) useless grammar, flashcards, and not improving?

Is that your Korean reality?

You can keep trying to figure things out on your own but the truth is...you are learning one of the hardest languages in the world.

So my question for you is: how are you going to take  responsibility for your own Korean so you can be on your way to fluency?

안녕하세요! 저는 한국어 선생님 네이뜬입니다! 반거워요!

My name is Nathan and I have been speaking Korean for the past 12 years. My Korean journey all started when I decided to have my parents send me to a Korean school in Los Angeles, California. I dreamed of being multilingual as a young typical African-American teenager growing up in the suburbs.

What a lot of people don´t know about my story is that I used learning Korean as a way to escape my abusive household and create a new life for myself abroad. Korean allowed me to get job opportunities, get accepted to one of the top universities in Korea, and make long lasting meaningful relationships.

Although I learned Korean as a teenager a huge part of my Korean study was done on my own through a lot of trial & error, determination, and struggle. From embarrassing encounters, pronunciation struggles, job interviews, awkward social situations, and so much more.

Korean for me is not just my second language but also a huge part of my life. I decided to become a Korean language coach because I know personally the struggles Korean language learners face. I am an expert at explaining complicated Korean grammar in an easy to understand way.

I want to help you develop the Korean confidence and skills you need. My goal at SmarterKorean is to help guide and support you to become a true Korean speaker.

After the first session I was on fire! I completed his course and worked hard daily to Go Independent From Scratch!' And I have done just that. Five Apple ESL launched Q1 of 2020! I am running my own business and doing what I love on my terms. No more fear of the wrong feedback plummeting my ranking and ruining my income. I am the business and I learned it all from Nate! Thank you! There are other offerings out there BUT what I received from Nate was not only skill, but inspiration. I also received support throughout the process. I highly recommend working with Nate if it is your desire to Go Independent From Scratch!

Improve your Korean vocabulary and listening skills in just 15 minutes a day, for 4 weeks!

Do you struggle to understand spoken everyday Korean on TV or on the street? Join me for 20 days of efficient training of spoken Korean.

Here's how it works:

Each week we will travel to a different region of Korea (virtually) while strengthening your listening skills. You will practice your Korean listening skills while learning new vocabulary through listening to native conversations.

Does this sound like you?

Does a wave of panic rush over you when you try to listen to Korean without English subtitles?

You have been studying Korean for a while now but still can´t understand your favorite dramas or speak to the 아줌마 at your favorite 김밥 place? Afraid of unexpected questions when ordering at a cafe in Seoul?

You take class after class with native teachers in hope that this time you´ll reach a new level of Korean. You learn more grammar, feel better, but overall, you´re left disappointed when it comes to understanding real spoken Korean? 왜요?

Well, to put it simply, 왜냐하면 you haven´t found the right system to help you.

You need a self-paced, stress-free, easy-to-follow system to help you consistently practice your listening skills.

Well, I have created it for you!

Week 1: 경기도

We will start together in Seoul. Learn more about the city as well as the region. But most importantly we will work together to figure out what exactly is holding you back. We will practice listening to cafe conversations, visit film locations from the movie Parasite, go shopping in 명동, and much more.

Week 2: 강원도

After making our way out of the city we will head to the mountainous forested region of 강원도. We will improve your listening skills while camping in one of the beautiful national parks.

Week 3: 전라북도

We will travel to the city of 남원 and discover local hidden secrets.

Week 4: 부산

We will end our challenge in 부산 while visiting a beach lounge, beach cafe, and have a full course meal in a traditional luxury restaurant.

Each week will include:

  • Translation activities to strengthen your comprehension skills 🎧

  • Dictation practice to improve your listening skills ✍🏼 📔

  • Fill in the blank activities to catch your strengths and weaknesses 🤓

  • Duet exercices to practice your pronunciation and speaking

  • Weekly listening comprehension exercise to sharpen your listening skills

  • Weekly end of the week quiz to test your knowledge 🔍 ⁉️

  • Weekly live class where I will correct the most common mistakes made in the week and answer questions 👨🏾‍🏫

  • Group mixers to meet other participants and motivate one another

Please note: The 20-day challenge is not designed for complete beginners. You must at least know how to conjugate in the present, past, and future tense.

What my students have to say:

Nathan by far is the best 선생님 I have ever had! I've had two other Korean teachers before coming to Smarter Korean. With Nathan, I am actually understanding and grasping the many, many, different grammar points (LOL). He breaks everything down for you and if you don't understand something, he has no problem breaking it down even further. I think what I enjoy the most is that I am learning 한국어 with someone I can relate to, someone who looks like me, and someone who understands the different nuances when it comes to learning a new language. I love the one-on-one classes, because they are fun and engaging. Nathan is always a quick email away and is available if you have any questions. There was part of a lesson that I was not understanding after our class, so he recorded a video and sent it over for me to review. I plan on learning with Smarter Korean for a while, as I have a goal of obtaining an Intermediate Mid (ACTFL) / B1 (CEFR) proficiency by the end of the year, which I think is possible.
